From the COO's Desk

"Our progress depends equally on delivering our programmes and the functions that strengthen our people, systems, finances, evidence, technology and operations."
— Nnenna Paul-Ugochukwu, Chief Operating Officer

Dear PINnovators, We carried forward the momentum we built in the first quarter into a busy and more externally oriented phase of our 2024–2028 Strategic Management Plan, gathering 415 delegates from 39 countries at DRIF, training 906 people, securing PIN's involvement in three sessions of the WSIS Forum, and welcoming 11 new members to the Net Rights Coalitions. More than 21,000 people downloaded our publications and toolkits.

With consolidated media reach exceeding 1.1 billion, and several new Zoho applications developed and deployed during the quarter, work continued to improve our internal systems. Across the organisation, teams delivered new research training and advocacy activities, strengthened our platforms and systems, and supported an extensive programme of engagement across our countries of operation.

The results reflect the collective effort of the entire PIN team. Our progress depends equally on delivering our programmes and the functions that strengthen our people, systems, finances, evidence, technology and operations.

The data also shows us where momentum has slowed. Advocacy, engagement, and research outputs declined; fewer people used Ripoti, and our newsletters reached and engaged fewer readers. These signals lead us to ask sharper questions, to understand what has changed and to determine where a different approach may be needed. This is what the Strategy in Motion is for. It enables us to connect activity to outcome, recognise the systems behind the results and allows us to detect gaps early on so we can change course.

With the first half of 2026 behind us, the Q2 SIM gives us an opportunity to reflect on the areas in which we are making progress, those where performance needs to be improved, and what we need to strengthen as we move through the remainder of the year.

I look forward to building on our achievements, applying what we have learned, and maintaining our focus on the priorities of our 2024–2028 strategy. Always remember, we move our strategy forward together through the quality of our choices and the consistency of our execution.

Your Comrade-in-Arms,
Nnenna Paul-Ugochukwu

Pinnovator Spotlight

"Barely six months into the job, I was sent to represent PIN at an international forum — in a country where the entire event was conducted in a language I do not speak. I adapted, I listened, and I came home with a lot more confidence than I left with."

Digital Rights & Inclusion Forum, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 2022

Samuel Ojezele

Senior Officer, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL)

Barely six months after joining PIN, I was entrusted with my first assignment: representing the organisation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event was part of the Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum, which featured in-person gatherings across 17 African countries.

It was an exciting opportunity, but it also came with an unexpected challenge: the entire event was conducted in Kiswahili, a language I do not speak. Despite the language barrier, I adapted quickly, stayed engaged, and connected with participants who helped me understand the key discussions. The experience taught me that meaningful participation is possible when we approach unfamiliar situations with openness, humility and a willingness to learn.

The assignment reflected PIN's trust in its people and its values of inclusion and collaboration. For me, it strengthened my confidence, deepened my appreciation for Africa's linguistic and cultural diversity, and reinforced the importance of stepping beyond my comfort zone.
